CUSHIONED is a poignant self-portrait by Emma Gurner, marking a significant new direction in her artistic practice. Turning her attention inward for the first time, Gurner explores themes of identity, vulnerability and quiet contemplation, while retaining the rich colour, pattern and compositional harmony that have long defined her work.

Framed by layers of warm textiles and intimate domestic surroundings, CUSHIONED speaks to the relationship between the self and the spaces we inhabit. 

Balancing painterly sensitivity with a refined decorative aesthetic, this work invites the viewer into a moment of quiet reflection, where the domestic setting becomes inseparable from the emotional landscape of the portrait.

One of only four original self-portraits in this landmark new series, CUSHIONED marks an important new chapter in Emma Gurner's evolving practice.
